If someone has died and their death was expected, then the coroner should not need to have any involvement in their death. If someone has died and they are at a hospital or hospice then you will be informed that the bereavement office will be in contact, they will arrange contact with the relevant doctor to produce the necessary paperwork. At this point you should call us and we will be able to guide you through the process.
If someone has died and their death was unexpected, then the coroner will be involved in the death to look into the cause and provide answers. If your loved one is at a home address, then you must first contact the emergency services who will attend to verify the death and to then inform the coroner. The coroner’s office will then arrange for your loved one to be taken to the nearest hospital mortuary to rest until an examination has taken place.
